14 Pieces of Computer Software That Changed Music

As the Content Director for a travelling museum exhibit entitled The Science of Rock’n’Roll (on now at the Ontario Science Centre in Toronto until October 26), I’m drawn to how science and technology has changed modern music. FactMag has this great list of computer programs that each had a massive effect on the way we make and record music.

Yes, ProTools and Auto-Tune are here, but so is Performer, OctaMED, Reaktor and more. Fascinating.

Alan Cross

is an internationally known broadcaster, interviewer, writer, consultant, blogger and speaker. In his 30+ years in the music business, Alan has interviewed the biggest names in rock, from David Bowie and U2 to Pearl Jam and the Foo Fighters. He’s also known as a musicologist and documentarian through programs like The Ongoing History of New Music.
