With so much music coming out of Canada, the US, the UK and Australia, it’s understandable that we don’t hear a lot about what’s happening in other parts of the world.  BuzzFeed has thoughtfully put together this list of notable 2013 tracks from artists from such countries as Chile, Angola, Russia, Mexico, Mali, Brazil, Taiwan, Turkey and more.

This, for example, is from Tricot, a fascinating all-female math-rock-ish indie band from Japan.

Alan Cross

is an internationally known broadcaster, interviewer, writer, consultant, blogger and speaker. In his 30+ years in the music business, Alan has interviewed the biggest names in rock, from David Bowie and U2 to Pearl Jam and the Foo Fighters. He’s also known as a musicologist and documentarian through programs like The Ongoing History of New Music.

    The drummer is actually a dude. However, they are a 3/4 female band…….and a good one at that.

    They may be coming to Canada as part of a future Next Music From Tokyo tour in 2014. Most likely in October.
