Here Is Your 2016 Polaris Music Prize Short List

The Polaris jury pool–music writers, bloggers, journalists, tastemakers, broadcasters, etc.–started by putting forth about 200 albums for consideration. Those were whittled down to the Long List last month. Now we have the Short List. These ten records will be judged by the Grand Jury in an effort to find the best Canadian album of the year.

  1. Black Mountain – IV
  2. Basia Bulat – Good Advice
  3. Grimes – Art Angels
  4. Carly Rae Jepsen – E•MO•TION
  5. Kaytranada – 99.9%
  6. Jessy Lanza – Oh No
  7. PUP – The Dream Is Over
  8. Andy Shauf – The Party
  9. U.S. Girls – Half Free
  10. White Lung – Paradise

This is a pretty solid list, but I’ll admit that I’m surprised by the exclusion of Drake’s Views.

We’ll find out who wins at the Polaris Gala on Monday, September 19. That artist will receive $50,000 in cash while the other nine will get $3,000, courtesy of Slaight Music.

Let the debating, discussion and kvetching begin. More at the Polaris website.
