The Canadian Music Therapy Trust Fund, in accordance with the Canadian Association of Music Therapists, will be hosting their fifth annual musicMARCH to advocate and collect funding for music therapy projects on Sunday, March 4th from 11:30 AM to 4 PM.

Music therapy involves the guided curation, critical analysis and expression of music alongside a trained therapist for the treatment of differently challenged patients. An intervention of this kind has been clinically proven to assist in the rejuvenation of mental and physical health and facilitates improvement in emotional well-being and social functioning. Though its professional accreditation was recent, and the recognition of its comprehensive health benefits has only emerged now.

The musicMARCH, designed to increase awareness, will stretch the 2.4 km of Bloor street road and approximate 31 minutes between the Trust Fund’s music therapy centre and Lee’s palace, where live music, food and entertainment await participants.

Everyone is encouraged to create their own fundraising page to assist in achieving the Trust Fund’s goal of raising $25,000 this year, though contributions in the form of a $25 entry fee will be collected at the Lee’s Palace doors.

The money will be used to improve programming for patients at their headquarter centre and other local practices within the GTA.

March is Music Therapy Awareness month, and this event is just one of the non-profit’s ongoing campaigns to ensure accommodations for potential patients are met. By spearheading 450 projects across Canada, raising just under 5 million dollars to date, and with the consistent awarding of scholarships and grants to aspiring professionals, the Canadian Music Therapy trust fund has continually delivered on its goal to expand and advance music therapy as a practice and treatment option.
