A French music festival has been canceled because of wildfires

It’s been a brutally hot summer across much of Europe with much talk about how the effects of climate change. Wildfires in France have brought home the issue of a warming planet to millions, including Eddie Vedder. He and Pearl Jam had to cancel a bunch of shows after they played in Paris. The smoke lingering in the air did some serious damage to his vocal cords and the band had to cancel a bunch of shows on their European tour.

The issues have also affected those who planned to attend the Villa Pop Festival this weekend. Organizers canceled everything at the last minute. The statement read “The risk of fires has increased in the region in recent days, and these security constraints have come to prevent the scheduled progress of our event.”

No alternate venue could be secured until at least October, so promoters decided to leave things along until next year.

There are six times more wildfires in France this summer than usual.
