A new survey says that live music is Canada’s favourite form of entertainment

Live Nation has just released a global report that surveyed 40,000 people aged 18-54 across 15 countries about how they like to spend their leisure time. The “Living for Live” report shows that in Canada, live music outranks movies, sports, and streaming. Here are some highlights.

  • Nearly 4 in 10 Canadians (37%) say live music is their favourite form of entertainment. That’s consistent with trends around the world.
  • 85% say “music is a core part of their identity and 82% say live is where they feel most themselves. More than 2 in 3 also say attending concerts together is a family tradition.”
  • 83% of Canadians say that a concert is one of their “most memorable life event.”
  • 72% plan their calendars around future shows by their favourite acts.
  • About 79% of Canadians travel to shows at least once a year.
  • More Canadian fans are travelling to other countries to see shows.
  • More than 2 in 30 fans say that at least half the music they enjoy is in a language other than their mother tongue.
  • Concerts are powerful drivers of local economies (restaurants, bars, hotels, stores, and more).
