In the summer of 1971, the Guess Who released their eighth studio album, So Long Bannatyne, a reference to Bannatyne Avenue, a street north of downtown Winnipeg. The artwork featured the band posing around a ’57 Chevy (I think it’s a ’57) in front of what appears to be an apartment building.
It was an apartment building–Bannatyne Apartments, home to guitarist Kurt Winter. He had recently moved out to posher digs, hence the title of the album and the final track on the record.
While undergoing renovations, a fire broke out sometime around 11am Sunday. It spread fast, gutting a large portion of the structure before it could be brought under control. Fire officials says the cause is suspicious.
