A Pussy Riot Playlist
While you’re probably familiar with Pussy Riot’s legal problems by now, chances are you’ve never heard much of their music. Here’s a quick playlist of their best-known songs. (If you want a more in-depth history of the band, go here.)
“Kropotkin Vodka”
A song about Prince Pyotr Kropotkin who preached anarchy back in the 19th century. Not popular with the Czarists, then.
“Release the Cobblestones”
Their first single/video, released November 7, 2011. Hey, that’s the anniversary of the 1917 Bolshevik revolution! I searched for the video on YouTube but came up empty. Can anyone help?
“Death to Prison, Freedom to Protests”
Released last December just as some major anti-Putin protests break out. This isn’t the video for the song, but it does include a statement in support of the band.
“Putin Got Scared”
From the album Kill the Sexist.
“Kill the Sexist”
Since we’re on the subject, here’s the title track of that album.
“Holy Mary, Drive Putin Away”
Not on the Kremlin’s playlist, I imagine. The performance that caused all the trouble.
Anyone find anything else worth posting?
