About This Oldster Coachella Concert…
The people behind this upcoming show in the desert this October is terrible at keeping a secret. There’s been so much news about the gig that I had no idea it was a secret at all. The reveal was completely anti-climactic.
The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Roger Waters, The Who, Paul McCartney, Neil Young and possibly Elton John will perform at the Coachella site–a place called Empire Polo Field–on October 7, 8 and 9.
Each of the acts have been sending out teaser trailers.

This is a pretty cool event, if you ask me. Given that we’ve entered an age when our long-time heroes are dying off, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see some of these greats before they…well, you know.
The average age of these performers (the four Stones, Roger and Pete, Roger Waters, Dylan, Macca and Neil Young) is 71.7 years. Brace yourself for a tsunami of ageist jokes over next few months.

Please. These are the people who wrote some of the original scripture of rock’n’roll. In most cases, their music careers extend beyond 50 years. What we have today would not exist without them. And if you’ve seen any of them perform in the last few years–especially McCartney; the man is a machine--you’ll know that they still got it.
Pete Townshend may rue the day he wrote the words “I hope I die before I get old,” but no one expected rock careers to have this kind of longevity back then.
And how old is too old to rock? With 717 combined years on this stage come October, the answer is apparently “never.”
