AI has been used to help a band with hearing disabilities release music

There are plenty of AI-related horror stories when it comes to music, but the technology has been used for exciting good things.

Take the case of Big Ocean JJ, a K-pop band whose members have hearing disabilities. Using a program called Supertone AI, they were able to record a single entitled “Bucket Hat.” This voice-tech allowed them to deliver “English lyrics with clear pronunciation and accurate pitch, despite having limited auditory feedback.”

How does this work? Supertone AI was used to create AI models for two members. Those models were then used to create “native guide vocals,” which–well, it was kinda magic after that.

Supertone president Kyogu Lee said this: “We are glad to have contributed to the artists’ journey in overcoming physical limitations without compromising their identity.”

Here’s Big Ocean JJ performing the track live.
