AI is now writing songs in the style of Nirvana–and frankly, it’s pretty good

Artificial intelligence is the talk of the planet right now, what with ChatGPT, Bard, and now Meta’s LLaMa gobbling up some headlines. But they’re far from the only AI companies shaking things up.

Take, for instance, Midjourney AI, a company that’s shown it can take the lyrics of songs and create visual representations–music videos, in other words. But now we’ve got this: Snippets for the AI’s attempt to write some new Nirvana material.

And then there’s this riff on “Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge on Seattle.” The program was fed 10 seconds of the original and 10 hours later, came back with this.

Er, kinda wow, right? You can tell there’s a human element missing. But remember this: This is the worst this technology is ever going to be. Where are things going to be in six months?

  • Better than I expected but it’s missing an edge. When Frances Farmer goes into the AI part you feel it become more radio friendly, a bit more relaxed.
