Amazon’s Alexa will now break up family arguments over Christmas. However…
You know what it’s like when family gets together over Christmas: At some point, no matter how careful everyone is to tiptoe around delicate subjects, an argument will break out and everything ends in tears.
Studies say that the prime time for such conflict is 6:30 pm December 25. And most fights are between siblings or with Mom.
Realizing this is a major problem, Amazon has introduced a new skill to its Alexa smart speakers. When things get heated, all someone has to do is yell “Alexa! Change the subject!” Alexa will then suggest some new–and most, importantly, innocuous–things to talk about.
For example, you might get back “What would your superpower be and why?” “When it comes to preparing scones, should the jam or cream come first?” Fair enough.
But a little more prodding brought up this question: “Is Die Hard a Christmas movie?” (Seriously. That’s a possible question.)
Uh-oh. Maybe Alexa should suggest something a little less dangerous. Like “Should Donald Trump have been impeached?”
