An Interesting Example of Big Data and Music Tastes

Pandora, the incredibly popular music streaming service )thus far denied to Canadians because of our high royalty costs) collects a lot of data on its users.  For example, they broke down the listening habits of New Yorkers by zip code.

Upper West Side:  Family folk songs and New Age solo piano

Upper East Side:  Laid back beach music and classic romance

Park Slope:  Toddler (lots of young families in that area)

Central Harlem:  Afrobeat

East Harlem:  Regional Mexican

Lower East Side:  Classic indie and today’s indie (lots of hipsters)

Lower Manhattan:  Hard rock (Wall Street types in the gym, apparently)

Makes you wonder about what people love the most in your neighbourhood, doesn’t it? Read more at the New York Post.
