And the biggest artists in the world in 2024 were… [UPDATED]

The IFPI, the organization that represents the global interests of the recorded music industry, just published four charts that ranking the biggest-selling artists on the planet in 2024. Here are the highlights.

  • Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department was the biggest-selling album. It was also the top streamer, and top vinyl seller of 2024. This is the third consecutive year she’s been at number one and her fifth number one ranking overall.
  • Drake was the second most-streamed artist of 2024. Fans will be happy to know that Kendrick Lamar was in ninth spot.
  • K-pop artists did well. Seventeen finished in third spot followed by Stray Kids in fifth.
  • In terms of raw album sales, 17 of the top 20 were from K-pop artists. The other three were Swift, Zhou Shen (China) and Snow Man (Japan).
  • Linkin Park was the top rock act (sales, streaming, vinyl) at 19.
  • The number of unit sales was down drastically. In 2023, the top 20 records like 55.7 million copies. In 2024, that number was 40.2 million.
