And the Top Selling Vinyl Record of 2012 Was…Not Abbey Road

In 2008, Nielsen Soundscan began breaking out sales figures for vinyl records.  Most years, the top-selling piece of vinyl belonged to the Beatles’ Abbey Road.  That was the case in 2009, 2010 and 2011.  But not in 2012.

The biggest-selling vinyl album of last year was Blunderbuss by Jack White.  It bumped Abbey Road to second spot by selling 33,000 copies.

This is also the first time a current record–not a catalogue album–finished in top spot.  And given that Blunderbuss is up for three Grammys this year (including Album of the Year), it should have a good 2013.
