And the Worst Hipster Act of 2012 Is…

…Bon Iver, apparently.

This, er, honour was bestowed by LA Weekly.  Justin Vernon’s nom-de-plum managed to beat out TuneYards (#2), Arcade Fire (#3), Bright Eyes (#4) and MGMNT (#5).

Other acts in the top 20 include Sleigh Bells, Decemberists, Black Keys, Pomplamoose (HEY!  Wait a second!) and Death Cab for Cutie.

From the introductory paragraph:

On its surface hipsterdom seems to be an individuality-grab, but most of today’s 20 and 30-something bands from Silver Lake and Williamsburg sound shockingly similar. They’re all playing variations of retro garage and soul music — or bringing glockenspiels and choirs on incestuous nationwide tours — all the while clad in vintage garb likely infested with lice. We’re not saying that they should be outlawed by, like, Congress or something. Just that they should be avoided.

Discuss.  Fight.

  • After reading that list, I just want to wash my brain out with Led Zeppelin or The Beatles

Arcade Fire? Seriously? They're the best band to come out in the past decade.

  • Great read. Most of those write ups were spot on! Even for the bands I actually like… Death Cab, Decemberists, Black Keys. The best part was the pictures. Some of the bands didn't need a write up cause their photos did all the talking.

I'd like to ad Yacht, Passion Pit, Neon Trees and that band from Brooklyn all the dopes like.

PS I don't think I knew Pomplamoose was a thing, I just hated their awful holiday songs.

PSS I think MGMT recorded Congratulations with GIANT heads and a "we can do no wrong" attitude, but learned a valuable lesson. Don't get me wrong, they seem like a couple of d-bags, but I'll listen to the 3rd lp hoping they get their career back from Foster The People.

    Happy Sunday Everybody!!!!
