And your Juno dinner host will be…Billy Talent’s Ben Kowalewicz

While most of the country will pay attention to the Juno Awards TV broadcast on Sunday, March 17, most of the action will happen the night before.

The TV show is just that: a variety program design for a prime time audience punctuated by about six actual award presentations. The real action–and the bulk of the awards–will be handed out the night before at the Juno Gala Dinner.

The untelevised industry dinner is a sit-down by-invitation-only event that goes on forever, partly because this is when 36 awards are handed out. (Yes, it can be streamed; the CBC will take care of that through its Gem streaming service as well as Facebook, YouTube and Twitter.)

This year’s dinner host will be Ben Kowalewicz, frontman for Billy Talent. Here’s his announcement video.
