Another Announcement About High-Res Audio. This Is Gonna be a Thing in 2015.

As someone who really appreciates high-fidelity audio, it does my heart much good to see that more companies are following Neil Young’s lead with Pono to bring back the glories of listening to music in its full-frequency glory.  Down with cheap earbuds! Down with listening to music out of laptop speakers!

I’ve been roadtesting a Sony High-Res player for the past couple of weeks and I love it.  I’m encouraged to see that Deezer and Sonos have a deal to offer High-Res streaming. And now 7Digital, a company that offers white label streaming services, has announced a deal with Meridian to deliver High-Res audio. RAIN reports on comments from 7digital CEO Simon Cole:

“We believe that high quality audio will be an important part of the future. There’s been a lot of focus on downloading high quality files and sideloading them onto a special player, like the Pono Music player. We have always believed that that would be an interim technology. In the end, technologies will emerge which allow streaming of high quality files. It’s quite clear that consumption of music will be streamed.”
