Another check on the Canadian sales race between CDs and vinyl

This week’s Luminate music sales and consumption data doesn’t include Record Store Day–that will be in next week’s report–but it does give us another snapshot of where things stand. All figures are the chart/sales week ending April 19, 2024.

  • CD sales in Canada year-to-date: 470,656 (a drop of 23% from this time last eyar)
  • Vinyl sales year-to-date: 436,679 (That’s only new vinyl and not any used material sold online, at record shows, or at indie record stores). That’s a rise of 24.6%.
  • CD sales last week: 30,087 (A drop of 5.7% from the previous week)
  • Vinyl sales last week: 26,198 (A drop of 7.8%.

Streaming? We’ve streamed 42.516 billion songs so far this year and 2.797 billion songs last week.
