Another check on the weekly sales battle between CDs and vinyl.

Over the last few months, CD sales in Canada have widened its sales lead on vinyl, but not by much–and for not much longer. CD sales continue to drop while more people are buying vinyl at an increasing clip. At this rate, the trend lines will cross sometime in 2025. Meanwhile, here’s where things stand this week. And keep in mind that these figures include sales from the Black Friday edition of Record Store Day.

  • Total CDs sold in Canada last week: 57,062 (up a solid 25% from a week ago).
  • Total vinyl sold in Canada last week: 87,306 (up 54.8% from the previous week. Yay, Record Store Day!)
  • CDs sold in all of Canada this year: 1,594,909 (down 12.7% from a year ago)
  • Vinyl sold in Canada this year: 1,487,771 (up 25.2% from this point last year)

Streaming stats? Sure.

  • Songs streamed in Canada last week: 2,849,102,476 (up 2.0% from a week earlier)
  • Songs streamed in Canada this year: 131,922,954,114 (up 9.7% from a year ago)
