Another mystery song needs identifying. Can you help?
An email came in from Jonathan late last week.
“My new-to-me tape player came with some reels, and I’ve been playing them gradually. Lots of big-band recorded on-air from CFRB. But I’ve discovered something really interesting, which I’d like to ask you to listen to. Details and a transcript of the lyrics are at on the YouTube link.”
“The tape has various guitar warm-ups, but then features this fully-formed song a few times. I can’t find a trace of it online, and lyric searches are all negative. Not even the copyright-hungry YouTube algorithms recognize it.
“My best guess is that it’s an unpublished original from a garage band. I still have to play the rest of the tape to see if there are clues as to dates or cities. I live in Ottawa, where I acquired this tape, but there’s no telling yet whether it’s local to here, Toronto, or somewhere else in Canada or the US. I’m an oldies junkie – I stream oldies from CKWW in Windsor – and this song would fit easily in that format, but I’ve never heard it elsewhere, and so far no one else has, either.”
Any ideas? More here.
Checked back on the Facebook post and Jon seems to have solved the mystery: “The band was known as the Termights, and they were based in / around Ottawa. Not sure how long they were together, but their old Facebook page says they broke up in 2010.”
