Another Spotify story: Have you tried the new “daylist” feature?
If you, like me, spend an awful lot of time sitting in front of a computer, you use music to help the day’s work go by more smoothly. But what should we listen to? Spotify has a new possible solution.
Launched yesterday (September 12) in Canada, the US, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand, “daylist” (yes, lower case), a personalized playlist that changes over the course of the day. I quote the Music Ally bulletin: This feature works by “bringing together the niche music and microgenres you usually listen to during particular moments in the day or on specific days of the week.”
What music you get depends on what you’ve been listening to. When I tried it out at 8 this morning, I was served a 90 minute playlist of “hardcore punk music for this moment.” It was a little jarring–I still hadn’t finished my first cup of coffee–but I’ll admit that I was introduced to a lot of hardcore that had so far eluded me including tracks from The Phosphorus Bombs, Mommy Sez No, and Iron Lizards.
So far, so cool. Clicking/tapping on the various artists and genres in your “daylist” will send you down multiple ratholes of new music.
Want to give it a try? Just open Spotify and search for “daylist.” Lemme know what you think. I’m going to keep my daylist running for a few others to see what happens.
“progressive stoner rock wednesday morning”
Apparently, I listened to “fuzz” on Wednesday mornings.
Interesting.
