The long winter with frigid temperatures and a couple of recent snow dumps (we won’t even start about the politics) has many in Ottawa longing for news of the upcoming summer festival season. In particular, those in eastern Ontario and western Québec have been longing to hear who will be performing at this summer’s Ottawa Bluesfest. And finally, everyone’s wish has been fulfilled. This morning Ottawa Bluesfest officially announced its lineup for the 10-20 July music festival and those looking for more alt-rock will be thrilled.

Yes, Bluesfest may have started as a blues festival, but it evolved over the years into a major music festival with many musical genres, including a lot of alt-rock acts.

The biggest headliner of the year is the surprise announcement of Green Day (nobody saw that coming), who are bringing along with them up and coming punk rockers The Linda Lindas.

“When we first staged the Ottawa Bluesfest in 1994, the plan was simple: provide a great festival experience with top-notch production and the best acts available to us at the time,” says the festival’s executive director, Mark Monahan. “That formula has stood the test of time, and we’re still going strong thirty-plus years later.”

Other alt-rock artists at the festival include:

  • Papa Roach
  • TURNSTILE
  • Hozier
  • Pixies
  • Tom Morello

There will be a one-day pre-sale tomorrow (February 26) with some reduced prices on passes. Regular prices start February 27. More information and a link to the ticket sales can be found on the Bluesfest website.
