Anyone else notice something strangely wonderful about this Twenty One Pilots song?
I admire Twenty One Pilots for their myth-making, world-building, and Easter egg-leaving for their fans. Other bands do this, but I’ve never seen something like this before. We start with an email from Adam.
“I am wondering if the song “Intentions” from their new album Breach is a musical first. This is the final track, and when played backwards, plays a song called “Truce” from their album, Vessel, recorded years earlier.
“To make Intentions work, he would have had to transcribe the notes of his vocal melody then reverse it. Reversing instruments during the recording process is not new. Queen uses a reversed piano in Another One Bites the Dust, Hendrix used reverse recorded guitars, but to have a new song that when reversed sounds like a whole other song recorded years prior? This could be a first. Below are links to each, your thoughts appreciated.
“PS: Twenty One Pilots must hold some kind of record for the longest string of a concept that transcends across six albums. Their sub-story of City of Dema and the surrounding area of Tench begins with the Vessel album in 2013 and concludes 12 years later in this latest album.”
Good point. Coheed and Cambria is the only other band I can think of doing something like this.
