Anyone Notice the Prince Reissues Available on Cassette?

If you read these pages with any regularity, you’ll know that I want the cassette to die. It was a fine technology when it was around, but it’s time for it to go away. It’s outdated, outmoded, technologically inferior and generally useless. How many people even have a working cassette player?

I will concede one and one thing only: cassettes can make good collectibles for people who have too much money. They’re tchotchkes, nothing more. Keep that in mind when you’re faced with this new Prince reissues.

  • I got the Burger recs email blast that i think listed some of these. I still play some of my old tapes and up until a decade ago would look for gems in the Sam’s tape clearance dumpster thingie. Having said that, no idea how we put up with rewinding and wear. These days i only use them if i know i am going to let the whole thing play (and autoreverse in the middle).
