Apple’s Car Project is “The Mother of All AI Projects”

Once upon a time, it was rumoured that Apple was getting into the car business as a competitor to Tesla and maybe Google. The company has pivoted away from that now, instead focussing on how AI can work in vehicles.

Speaking to Bloomberg, CEO Tim Cook had this to say:

“We’re focusing on autonomous systems,” Cook said in a June 5 interview on Bloomberg Television that amounted to his most detailed comments yet on Apple’s automotive plans. “It’s a core technology that we view as very important.” He likened the effort to “the mother of all AI projects,” saying it’s “probably one of the most difficult AI projects to work on.”

Cook says that cars are ripe for disruption. Apple wants to be in the middle of all that, apparently. This could be interesting.
