Are Nickelback Haters Closet Fans?
Nickelback cannot get any love in many parts of the world. They are, without a doubt, a punching bag for people who believe that the band’s represent rock’s lowest common denominator. The derision is so intense that even many hardcore Nickelback fans (and there are millions of them) are afraid of admitting that they like the band.
Here’s an example. Drummer Daniel Adair was at the gym when he was recognized by a man. Chad Kroeger:
“And the guy goes, ‘I just want to preface this by saying I’m a fan of your band and I have all of your CDs and I will be coming to your show tonight. Can you tell me why ten of my closest friends say they hate your band. I know for a fact that eight of them have tickets for your show tonight, and six of them have bought your last three CDs. But they all claim to hate your band.’”
And what’s this about Kroeger working on a secret masterpiece that he believes might be his “OK Computer” or “Bohemian Rhapsody?”
I’ll be honest: I’m not any kind of Nickelback hater. Chad’s a very solid songwriter who knows the band’s audience extremely well. Although I’m not a fan, I definitely respect what he and the band have been able to accomplish. And as a Canadian, I like it when Canadian bands do well on the international stage. I suspect there are many more people like me–but they just won’t admit it.

These people have to fake it, because they know that majority rules and not risk ridicule by the rest of humanity who think Nickelback sucks.

i am very confident and content that I hate them because they suck, not because others know the truth as well. Soulless western cock-rock. If it wasn't for 'How You Remind Me' which went mega international, do any of their other singles hold up? No. They piggybacked, like many do. I don't care that they're canadian. Good is good, and they, are not.
We all know Alan Cross is otherwise he wouldn't constantly write articles about them. Im sure 99% of your audience could care less if they ever heard or read about them again.
Somebody must like them!
Is it jealousy? Envy? I don't know, but it's ridiculous. Nickelback knows its audience very well, exploits it and has cashed in. Seems being a success is not on.
