Are You a Fan of Creation Records? A Big Box Set is Coming

Despite all the drinking and drugs, Alan McGee had a pretty awesome indie label going for a while. The Jesus and Mary Chain. My Bloody Valentine. Primal Scream. Oasis. They all came out of the weird Creation Records stew. Of course, it eventually came to a crashing halt with McGee selling the company to Sony.

After much research (and probably quite a bit of litigation), Cherry Red Records–one of the best reissue labels in the world–is ready with a multi-CD box set called Creation Artifact: The Dawn of Creation Records 1983-1985.  Although this predates just about all of the label’s most legendary acts (cf. MBV and Oasis), it does offer a deep, deep dive into this particular corner of British indie music culture. If names like Biff Bang Pow!, the Jasmine Minks and the Pastels set your heart aflutter, you’ll need to seriously consider this collection.
