As fElon Musk burns Xitter to the ground, Bluesky would like a word with the Swifties

When X was Twitter, it had its faults, but it was a great way of keeping tabs on what was happening in the world. But after fElon Musk bought the place for US44 billion, it’s turn into a cesspool of garbage, porn, and hate. Subscribers peaked at about 368 million to less than 100 million. Advertisers have fled and major media outlets and companies have publicly announced that they will no longer post on X because of the plethora of awful content.

So what’s a social media person to do? I’m keeping my X account alive just to observe its downfall, but most of my engagement is now on Threads (about 275 million subscribers and connected to Instagram) and Bluesky. Let’s talk about the latter.

Bluesky was founded by Jack Dorsey, the guy who came up with Twitter. Beginning as an invitation-only platform, it’s now wide open to anyone–and people are taking advantage of that. Sign up requests came so quickly yesterday that Bluesky crashed for a while as users bailed on Xitter and tried moving over. Registered users are up 15% since Trump was elected.

The user base is still small–about 15 million now–but that will continue to grow. Engagement is different from what you’ll find on Xitter and even Threads. As someone put it, “Threads is like a decently run national coffee shop chain. Bluesky is more like the indepent artisanal roaster in your neighbourhood.”

Bluesky thinks they can tap Taylor Swift’s fanbase, too. From Techcrunch:

“Almost 13,000 people on Bluesky have signed up with a “swifties.social” domain name, indicating their involvement in the Taylor Swift fan community. Other fandoms for artists like Beyoncé (about 900 members) and BTS (about 4,500 members) have also emerged.”

fElon is done with Xitter, anyway. He got what he wanted by flooding the net with disinformation and sh*t to get Trump elected. Wanna bet that there will be a merger with Truth Social? What could possibly go wrong?

Therefore, I am urging all Swifties looking for a new social media home away from Xitter to consider both Threads and Bluesky. Help bring Xitter down. Spread the word, please.

Once you do that, look for me on Bluesky and iThreads.
