As France bans big concerts, a French small town permits the largest gathering of Smurfs.
France is experiencing its own issues with COVID-19, and is trying contain things the best they can. One such precaution is to ban gatherings of more than 1,000 people, which has severely impacted the country’s live music scene.
However, over in Landerneau in the western part of the country, Mayor Patrick Leclerc gave his blessing to the largest gatherings of Smurfs ever seen in this part of the universe.
About 3,500 people turned up to larp about in costumes, wigs and blue body makeup.
Leclerc’s reasoning? Things are too serious these days, calling the prevailing atmosphere “ambient gloom”
“We must not stop living,” he said, “It was a chance to say that we are alive.”
Media in Belgian and hard-hit Italy were not impressed.
At last glance, 25 people in France have died as the result of COVID-19 whle more than 1,400 are infected. Jeebus, wouldn’t it be surreal if a gathering of Smurfs became a new epicenter of the disease?
