Aussie Band 3D Printed Their New Video–And You Can,Too!

I think 3D printing is super-cool, although I’m beginning to see parallels with the introduction of the fax machine back in the 80s.  At first, they were high-tech marvels capable of doing wondrous things.  A few years later, everyone had them.  Now I never want to use one ever again.  Still, we might as well enjoy how it feels to see this new technology come to life.

While the world is still figuring out how to use 3D printing, Aussie band Cut/Copy thinks it can make good art.  Almost every frame of the new video “We Are Explorers” features some kind of 3D-printed object.  Let’s start with that.

But that’s only the surface.  If you download and unlock a BitTorrent bundle (Cut/Copy has worked out a partnership with them), you get the video but also the print files for the video itself.  In other words, if you have access to a 3D printer, you can download and manufacture a physical 3D version of the video for yourself.

How cool is that?
