Brilliant: The Toronto Public Library Now Lends Musical Instruments
How many people are prevented from exploring their musical gifts just because they don’t have access to instruments? The Toronto Public Library is hoping to fix that. As of this week, the Parkdale branch at 1303 Queen Street West is offering guitars, keyboards and 98 or so other instruments on loan. This is the new Sun Life Financial Musical Instrument Lending Library.
Wow. What a great idea for a community corporate initiative! (Hey, corporations! Wanna give back? Think about doing something like this!)
If you have a library card, you can slap it down to borrow one instrument for up to three weeks. Meanwhile, they’re looking for additional donations of well-loved used instruments. Partner Long & McQuade is helping out by taking in new gear at the Bloor Street and Steeles Avenue stores.

- Acoustic guitars
- Banjo
- Ukulele
- Xylophone
- Djembe African drum
- Tabla
- Various violins
- Electronic keyboards of various sizes
