Joey “Shithead” Keithley, the head of DOA, Canada’s greatest punk band, has a head for politics. He’s tried to get elected several times in the past at the provincial level but those campaigns never worked out. Now he’s trying his hand at civic office.
He announced this week that he’ll be running for mayor of Burnaby, BC, on behalf of the Green Party.
Today I’m letting people know that I am running to be the Mayor of Burnaby, my hometown. I am running for the Burnaby Civic Green Party. I am going to fight for grassroots democracy where everybody’s voice is heard! I will put a stop to the heartless Demovictions that are a disgrace to Burnaby, BC and Canada. The Burnaby Greens will work towards making Burnaby a greener and more sustainable city. We will also do whatever it takes to stop the Kinder Morgan Pipeline expansion. #greens #bcgreens #burnaby #bcpoli #doapunk #vancouver #kindermorgan # #cndpoli
Joey’s opponent is five-term mayor Derek Corrigan. The vote will take place on October 20.
