Butthole Surfers’ frontman Gibby Haynes has written a young adult novel

Young adult (aka YA) fiction has been big business over the last decade, ranging from Harry Potter to The Hunger Games. We’ve come a long way since the days of Judy Blume.

The latest person to get into YA novels is–wait for it–Gibby Haynes, the frontman for the Butthole Surfers. Yes, the weirdest man in alt-rock has cranked out a book for teenagers. Look!

The book tells the story of a 17-year-old named Oscar Lester and his dog, Mr. Cigar. Yeah, a boy and his dog. But it’s way more trippy than it sounds.

It’s something of a roadtrip buddy plot. Mr. Cigar embarks on a journey to save Rachel, Oscar’s sister, who has been abducted by evil and sinister forces for reasons that aren’t clear. Along the way, the boy and his dog run into everything from super-secret tech to sketchy government agents to weirdo drug dealers.

Did I mention that five years earlier Mr. Cigar had bitten off Rachel’s hand? This is gonna be weird.
