Cabin Tapes – Vinyl Edition

A few months back I had posted a song by Christopher Watson called “Something About The Dark”. The song was part of a series called Cabin Tapes and featured songwriters performing in a cabin in Brooklyn. Now the fine folks who host this series want to put out an exclusive vinyl record based on those sessions. And the Kickstarter campaign to do so gets under way today (April 11).

Listen to a couple of examples from Christopher Watson and Victoria Reed:

Hi, I’m Mache. I wanted to help songwriters connect with their fans so last summer I teamed up with film-makers and an architect to create Cabin Tapes, a web-series that showcases talented emerging songwriters in an unexpected New York City setting – a cabin.

We wanted to make every part of the listeners experience something worth talking about. The series was filmed in a cabin behind a brownstone in Brooklyn designed and built by architect Nicholas Hunt. The songs were recorded with high quality microphones to a vintage reel to reel tape recorder, the almighty Teac A-3340, and later mixed in a professional studio using analog gear to stay true to the original sound.

As a way to celebrate the project and support the artists we are pressing a limited edition record on clear vinyl. This is your chance to own a part of the experience. ‘Cabin Tapes: Volume One” will include 11 songs featured on the web-series. Four of the songs have not been previously released and will be included exclusively on the record. The record will include a card-stock insert with artwork, lyrics, and photographs from the series. Nick has even shared his original drawings and sketches with us.
