California Trio Wins BBC Sound of 2013 List
Every year the BBC floats a list of new acts that it thinks will break through globally in the coming twelve months with their Sound of 2xxx. From that list, they choose a top pick. And they’ve been pretty good at picking winners, too.
2003: Fifty Cent
2004: Keane
2005: The Bravery
2006: Corinne Baily Rae
2007: Mika
2008: Adele
2009: Little Boots
2010: Ellie Goulding
2011: Jessie J
2012: Michael Kiwanuka
This year’s Top Five went like this:
5. CHVRHCHES
4. Laura Mvula (Does her name remind anyone else of that Seinfeld episode?)
3. Angel Haze
2. AlunaGeorge
And the Sound of 2013 winner is Haim, three sisters from California who channel Fleetwood Mac quite well. Here’s what they sound like. Let’s see if they can live up to the hype.
I think they'll be rather popular. Already heard a great remix of 'Forever". Chvurches are top, too.
