  • Conversely, audio CDs actually slow down as the data being read is found closer to the edge.

    And then one day someone realised that data CDs don't have any reason to slow down so we started getting all the CD-ROMs that had specs like "24x-48x" meaning it read 24x the speed of an audio CD at the centre of the disc and 48x at the outer edge.
