Can anyone identify this audio?

Gino Meekis, his wife and his grandsons were out hunting grouse in Northwestern Ontario when they heard something weird in the distance. What the hell makes this kind of noise?

It’s obviously some kind of animal noise, but what? An operatic moose? A hair metal-singing bear? Sasquatch?

Wildlife officials are stumped, too, although they think it might be a wolf. Maybe.
