Can we now please just admit that Woodstock 50 isn’t gonna happen?
If you check your calendar, you’ll see that the 50th-anniversary edition of Woodstock is scheduled to start in 67 days. Let’s take a look at how things stand.
- Tickets haven’t gone on sale yet. We don’t even know what they will cost.
- Everyone on the bill is confused about whether the festival will actually happen.
- While organizer Michael Lang did manage to find a new partner in the form of investment bank Oppenheimer and Co., the legal fight with former partner Dentsu Aegis continues.
- CID, Woodstock 50’s event producer (the second production to be hired), is out. From Billboard: “CID Entertainment had been engaged to provide enhanced camping, travel packages and transportation for Woodstock 50. Given developments, we can confirm that CID is no longer involved in Woodstock 50 in any capacity. “
- Permits are yet to be issued to hold the festival at Watkins Glen International Raceway.
- And it doesn’t matter anyway because Watkins Glen has pulled out of the festival. I quote from their statement: “Watkins Glen International terminated the site license for Woodstock pursuant to provisions of the contract. As such, WGI will not be hosting the Woodstock 50 Festival.”
