Canadian Artists Who Have Won Gold and Platinum Awards So Far This Year
We’re halfway through 2016 and already several Canadian musicians have won gold and platinum awards. FYI Music News compiled a list of artists who have reached gold and/or platinum status in the first half of this year.
Of course Drake, Justin Bieber, and the Weeknd all hit platinum. Drake’s Views was certified platinum in May. The Biebs hit quadruple platinum twice, also in May, for Purpose and for the digital download sale of “Love Yourself”. His hit “Sorry” reached the same digital download mark in April.
Other, smaller artists hit gold and platinum status, too. According to FYI Music News: “Ruth B registered a platinum digital download for her hit ‘Lost Boy’ on June 14, the same day David Bowie notched a platinum album for Blackstar. On May 11, Dany Fernandes scored a gold single for digital downloads for ‘Dear Life’, a day before Drake’s album Views was certified platinum. Belly is now best-known for co-writing hits for The Weeknd, but on May 10 he scored gold for the digital downloads of his track ‘Might Not’, one featuring The Weeknd as guest”.
Unsurprisingly, The Strumbellas’ “Spirits” went gold for digital downloads in April. Country music duo, High Valley also got gold digital awards for both “Make You Mine” and “Country Line”.
FYI Music News noted that: “Marianas Trench mined digital download gold for ‘One Love’, while Virginia to Vegas scored platinum for their hit track ‘We Are Stars’, featuring Alyssa Reid”.
From Quebec, Louis Jean-Cormier won a gold award for Les Grands Arteres, 2 Freres’ album Nous Autres went gold, and Half Moon Run’s Sun Leads Me On also went gold. The La Voix 1V album went platinum.
FYI Music News also notes that Maritime dancepop artist “Mia Martina fared very well, notching digital download gold for her tracks ‘Heartbreaker’ and ‘Beast’, plus a double platinum award for ‘Stereo Love’.
Other artists who reached platinum include Diana Krall, Walk Off the Earth, Deadmau5, Coleman Hell, Alessia Cara, and Shawn Mendes.
