Canadian music sales and streaming stats: 05 July 2021

One-half of 2021 is now complete. How are things going with the recorded music industry so far this year? MRC Data provided the latest weekly stats

Year-over-year comparisons:

  • Total album sales, -9.9%
  • CD sales, -7.5%
  • Digital albums, -24.2%
  • Digital tracks, -26.8%
  • Vinyl LPs, +53.0% (Again, that’s not a typo.)
  • On-demand audio streams, +14.6%

Now let’s look at week-over-week numbers:

  • Total album sales, +9.2%
  • CD sales, +6.7%
  • Digital albums, +4.4%
  • Digital tracks, +7.1%
  • Vinyl LPs, +29.6%(!!!)
  • On-demand audio streams, -2.2% (1.895 billion streams in the country last week)
