Canadian music sales and streaming stats: 18 October 2021

I went to bed last night before the weekly Canadian music sales and streaming stats came in. I feel shame.

Here’s where things stand compared to last year.

  • Digital albums, -27.7%
  • Digital tracks, -26.2%
  • Vinyl LPs, +41%
  • On-demand audio streams, +12.4%

Now let’s look at the week-over-week numbers.

  • Total album sales, -4.6%
  • CD sales, -0.1%
  • Digital albums, -6.0%
  • Digital tracks, 0.8%
  • Vinyl LPs, -12.0%
  • On-demand audio streams, -0.9% (1.960 billion streams in the country last week).

It’ll be interesting to watch the Adele Effect in the coming weeks. All numbers courtesy MRC.
