Canadian music sales and streaming stats: 29 November 2021 (The Adele Effect Edition)

Last week was the first week of sales for Adele’s 30 album. What kind of difference it did make in the overall sales picture?

Year-over-year comparisons:

  • Total album sales, -12.0%
  • CD sales, -7.4%
  • Digital albums, -26.2%
  • Digital tracks, -25.1%
  • Vinyl LPs, _28.3%
  • On-demand audio streams, +12.6%

So even Adele couldn’t erase the cumulative deficit. But hey, it was just one week. Give her time. The Adele Effect is best observed in the week-over-week numbers.

  • Total album sales, +48.7%
  • CD sales, +65.0%
  • Digital albums, +32.6%
  • Digital racks, +1.7%
  • Vinyl LPs, +38.2%
  • On-demand audio streams, +2.2% (2.05 billion streams in the country last week. An all-time high!)
