Cassettes are a still thing for some people. What are they looking to collect?
The cassette, a once-useful and now completely irrelevant music format, refuses to die. It’s not that people are buying them to play, though; they’re collectibles and tchotchkes and merch.
Goldin, a marketplace for collectibles, report that these are some of the cassettes that are receiving the most bids.
- Snoop Doggy Dogg 1993 Doggystyle Factory-Sealed Cassette Tape: This was probably Snoop’s best album. It’s also a very important 90s’era rap record.
- Guns N’ Roses 1991 Use Your Illusion I Factory-Sealed Cassette Tape: There was much hype when this was released. Finding a sealed example is pretty rare.
- Nirvana In Utero Factory-Sealed Cassette Tape: Same as above.
- 1996 Jay-Z Can’t Knock The Hustle Factory-Sealed Cassette Tape – Single: A “cassingle,” which was supposed to be the replacement for the 7-inch record.
I don’t get it, but if cassettes are your thing, fill yer boots.
