Cast your ballot for the Slaight Family Polaris Heritage Prize

It’s Thanksgiving weekend, which means you’re either in a food coma or trying to find things to do to avoid your family.  Here’s something you can do to show your gratitude for Canadian artists!

There are 12 nominees for this year’s Slaight Family Polaris Heritage Prize, given to two albums of distinction as an exemplary piece of Canadian music.

“One album will be chosen by public vote, and a second will be determined by a Heritage Prize jury made up of music media and historians,” the organization says.

Your nominees are:

The Corb Lund Band, Five Dollar Bill

Faith Nolan, Africville

Jackie Mittoo, Wishbone

Jean Leloup, Le Dome

Joni Mitchell, Court and Spark

k.d. lang, Ingenue

Lillian Allen, Revolutionary Tea Party

Michie Mee and L.A. Luv, Jamaican Funk-Canadian Style

Nomeansno, Wrong

Rufus Wainwright, Rufus Wainwright

Stars, Set Yourself on Fire

The Weakerthans, Left and leaving

“The companion award to the Polaris Music Prize, winners and nominees for the Heritage Prize are also Canadian albums of artistic distinction, without regard to sales, genre or affiliation,” the foundation says. “This is our version of a hall of fame where we try to honour meritorious Canadian albums that pre-date when Polaris began in 2006.”

Voting is open through next Monday, October 18, at 8 p.m. EST/5 p.m. PT and the winners will be announced on October 26. Go here to make your picks!
