Checking on the Canadian sales battle between CDs and vinyl

Luminate has sent out its weekly sales and music consumption numbers for Canada. This gives us another chance to keep tabs on the sales battle between CDs and vinyl in this country. Here are the latest stats available:

  • Total CDs sold so far in Canada this year: 1,082,497 (down 13.6% from this point last year)
  • Total new vinyl sold in Canada: 946,993 (up 29.7% from a year ago)
  • CDs sold in Canada last week: 32,749 (up 14.4% from the previous week)
  • Vinyl sold in Canada last week: 28,561 (up 25.0% from the previous week)

If you want the streaming numbers:

  • Total on-demand audio streams last week across the country: 2,703,141,257 (a 0% increase from the week before)
  • Total on-demand audio streams for the year: 92,416,539,492 (up 10.8% from last week)
