Checking on weekly Canadian music sales and streaming data

Nielsen/MRC delivered the weekly music stats. Here they are starting with the scary year-over-year figures.

  • Total album sales, -34.4%
  • CD sales, -49.5%
  • Digital albums, -19.6%
  • Digital tracks, -25.9%
  • Vinyl LPs, -10.7%
  • On-demand audio streams, +16.1%

A more granular view of things are the week-to-week numbers.

  • Total album sales, +12.7% (and that does NOT include Black Friday sales on, you know, Black Friday itself.)
  • CD sales, +16.6%
  • Digital albums, -1.5%
  • Digital tracks, +2.9%
  • Vinyl LPs, +28.6%
  • On-demand audio streams, +2.0% (1.765 billion streams in the country last week)
