Coldplay’s Contribution to Record Store Day: A Comic Book

Fans who subscribe to Coldplay’s newsletter learned yesterday that the Mylo Xyloto comic book series is getting a digital release, just in time for Record Store Day.

The comic–the name comes from the 2011 album, of course–was written by filmmaker Mark Osborne, the man who gave us such classics as Kung Fu Panda and, er, The SpongeBobSquarePants Movie.  The publisher is Bongo Comics Group, a company Simpsons fans will recognize as the one owned by Matt Groening.

The six-part series is set in an Orwellian society run by a totalitarian government using a mix of propaganda and fear.

The first three issues are available in Apple’s iBookstore now with the other three installments set to be released monthly through to July.  Oh, and Issue #1 is free.

Coldplay also has something else planned for Record Store Day.  Read about it at The Hollywood Reporter.
