Coming in March: The first World Metal Congress

There are all kinds of music conferences held around the world each year. Most have a general focus, but there are those who deal exclusively with EDM, country, and hip-hop. So why not a music conference for metal?

The first-ever World Metal Congress is set for March 22 and 23 in London. Launched by a former editor of Metal Hammer, he says “In these troubling times the fact that this music resonates with people of every colour and culture and creed is an incredibly special thing, and we want to shout that from the rooftops. With the WMC we’re creating a unique forum to help bring that truly global community together, and we’ve already had a phenomenal response.”

Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi is very pleased. “I’m really pleased to hear that the World Metal Congress will be taking place in the UK. The metal community is huge but rarely gets the recognition it deserves.”

What can one expect? Speakers, performers, panels, discussion–all the usual stuff you’d find at a music festival, except that things are exclusively metal.
