Coming soon: A TV comedy series about the music scene in Hamilton

If you’ve spent any time paying attention to the live music scene in Hamilton, Ontario, you’ll know that it’s own particular animal, rich in both stories and characters. There will soon be a comedy TV series that will draw from these stories and people.

Called This is the Thing, it features two 30-something employees of an indie record store. One wants to make it as a stand-up comedian while the other has dreams of blowing up on YouTube.

Created by Hamilton comedian Mike Mitchell, the show will feature cameos from some of the city’s musicians (Terra Lightfoot, The Dirty Nil) as well as Ed the Sock.

Says Mitchell: “There are so many layers to Hamilton that the city becomes a character itself. There’s a reason so many great comedians and bands have come from Hamilton, and I really wanted to show off everything the city has to offer.”

The series will debut on Bell Fibe TV1 in the spring. Read more at Urbanicity.com.
